How to find a rishta safely online
Simple steps for an online rishta search: write an honest profile, protect personal details and take time before making decisions.
Start with a clear profile
On Hamsar, write about the person looking to get married: their age, current city, education and plans. If a parent or family member is helping, say who manages the profile and get the person’s permission.
Keep your personal details private
Use the site’s chat for early conversations. Do not share your home address, CNIC, passport, bank details or verification codes. Choose who can see each photo, and remember that a person who sees a clear photo may be able to copy it.
Understand an interest request
Send an interest if you would like to talk. When the other person accepts, chat opens. Acceptance is only an agreement to talk. Either person can decide not to continue.
Check information before deciding
Ask about work, family, previous marriage and plans after marriage. Give each other time to answer. Read verification labels carefully: email verification does not confirm identity or background. Involve a trusted person when you are ready.
Stop if you feel pressured
Do not send money to someone you meet through a rishta site. Use Report for suspicious behaviour and Block to stop contact. WhatsApp also has reporting and blocking tools, but conversations moved there are outside Hamsar. If you meet in person, choose a public place and tell someone you trust.
These notes are general guidance for families. For a religious ruling, legal advice, or immigration advice, please speak with someone you trust in that field.
